Help Prevent Malaria in Uganda

Congolese refugees in Uganda

Malaria is the leading cause of death in Uganda, killing between 70,000 and 100,000 children every year.

Disproportionately affected are children under age 5 and pregnant mothers, especially those in rural areas were rates of incidence are higher and less treatment is available.

In July 2020, thousands of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo fled their homes to seek asylum in Uganda.

Basic sanitary conditions are very poor in the refugee camps.  The risk of contracting COVID-19 and Malaria is very high.

These areas are extremely poor, so those infected can't afford to pay doctors or buy medicine to treat their conditions.  Often, those who can obtain access to malaria medicine find that it is not well tolerated by their body.

YOU CAN HELP STOP THE SPREAD OF MALARIA AND COVID-19

UAN is requesting your assistance to help purchase basic disease prevention materials for approximately 3,500 refugees who reside in 3 camps.

Caregivers in the area have asked us to help them purchase mosquito nets and raw materials to make liquid hand soap.

The most effective way to prevent malaria is to sleep under a mosquito net.

Can you help?

For the cost of a Venti Caffe Latte from Starbucks, you can fund the purchase of mosquito netting that may prevent 3 or 4 people from contracting malaria.

Thank you for your kindness.

UAN expresses our gratitude to Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe for the pictures and for her reports of the difficult conditions in the area.

We continue to work directly with Sister Rosemary to support her ministry in Uganda.  Learn more.
