Domestic Abuse Victims Displaced by Hurricane Harvey
UAN Charity Advisor Johanna Moya Fabregas celebrated her 40th birthday with a fundraising dinner and silent auction to benefit domestic abuse victims who were displaced from shelters by Hurricane Harvey! Over $4,000 was raised for this great cause. UAN members used the funds to purchase necessities that were then delivered to the Family Crisis Center in Bastrop, TX.
Knitting Group
Meeting on every second Saturday since March of 2018, UAN's Knitting Group brings together a group of dedicated adults and children who knit hats and scarves for Austin's homeless. In addition to receiving the soul-nurturing benefits of working to serve others, the group reaps the cognitive and physical benefits of using rhythmic, repetitive hand movements that focus the mind and lead to a relaxed state, similar to meditation.
Once beyond the initial learning curve, studies have shown that knitting can reduce heart rate, blood pressure and the stress hormone, cortisol, as well as provide a sense of creative fulfillment.
UAN's "East Meets West" health education workshops bring together experts to discuss Eastern and Western approaches to a variety of health and wellness related issues.
UAN hosts cooking classes to demonstrate how cultures from around the world prepare tasty and nutritious meals that support health, wellbeing and a sense of community. Stimulating our taste buds as well as our souls, these fun and educational experiences will leave you fulfilled in more ways than one.

For our members safety, all classes are now held virtually. You can watch our very first Zoom class by clicking here.
